- The Living Shelf → The Walipini When the Living Shelf is installed inside the Walipini, its aquaponic output (greens, herbs, fish) integrates into the Walipini's broader harvest stream. The fish-water cycle benefits from the Walipini's stable temperatures (50–82°F range) year-round.
- The Walipini → The Sky Well Rainwater collected off the angled glazing surface. A 12×20 ft Walipini with 30°+ glazing slope sheds ~150 sq ft of catchment. The Walipini is one of the two largest contributors to Sky Well capacity (along with house roof) — pipes directly to Sky Well rain barrels or cistern via the gutter / downspout system.

- The Preserve → The Living Pantry The most important inflow — output from canning, freeze-drying, dehydrating, and fermenting goes directly into the deep tier (canned/dehydrated/freeze-dried) or short-term tier (fermented vegetables, jam, etc.). The Preserve is what keeps the deep tier alive.
- The Living Pantry → The Preserve Reverse Feed — when a Grow rig produces more than the active and short-term tiers can absorb, the Living Pantry passes the surplus to The Preserve for processing. Example: 40 lbs of Porch Garden tomatoes = 4 lbs active + 6 lbs short-term frozen + 30 lbs to The Preserve for canning.

- Field Plot → The Sanctum Bulk crop residue too coarse for the Worm Bank — corn stalks, squash vines, weed pulls. The Sanctum's hot pile breaks these down in 60–90 days into amendment that returns to Field Plot the following season. Closes the carbon loop without any external compost purchase.
- Field Plot → The Smokehouse Dent corn for nixtamalization (hominy, masa, tortillas), dry beans for long-storage processing, dry squash strips. The Smokehouse processes Field Plot's bulk staples into Living Pantry-ready forms.
- Field Plot → The Preserve Winter squash (long-stored as-is or pressure-canned), shell beans (dried + canned), and sweet corn (canned or frozen). The Preserve handles the canning / fermentation / freezing pipeline that the Smokehouse doesn't cover.
- Field Plot → The Distillery Corn and small grain (rye, wheat) as fermentation base for distilled spirits, vinegars, and grain alcohols. Trade-economic significance — finished spirits travel further than raw grain at higher value density.
- Field Plot → The Coop Whole grain (corn, wheat, oats) as direct chicken feed — replaces commercial layer pellets at significant cost and quality advantage. Surplus winter squash split open for the flock as winter forage / hydration. The Coop's manifest explicitly lists "Grow your own grain (Field Plot Feed)" as the canonical layer-feed swap.
- Field Plot → The Paddock Corn stover (post-grain stalks + leaves) as ruminant fodder, hay from cover crop overflow, fodder-variety squash. The Paddock's goats / sheep extract additional value from Field Plot's biomass before it returns as manure.
- Field Plot → The Seed Bank Year-over-year saved seed from best-performing plants. The Seed Bank is the active seasonal turnover — clean, dry, packet, label, store for next planting. Field Plot is the highest-volume seed contributor in the Grow domain.
- Field Plot → The Lineage Multi-decade frozen seed preservation of landrace varieties adapted to this specific land. Field Plot's landrace seed (after 5–10 years of selection) is genetically distinct from anything commercially available — The Lineage is the insurance against losing it. Sample every 3–5 years.
- The Coop → Field Plot Annual spring cleanout of The Coop's deep-litter compost grinder produces ~180 lbs/year per 6-hen flock of high-nitrogen amendment. Top-dressed on Field Plot sections before cover crop seeding. Closes the kitchen-scrap → chicken → field loop.
- The Paddock → Field Plot Aged ruminant manure from goats / sheep applied to Field Plot in fall before cover crop, or composted 60–90 days first if hot. Animal-impact soil-building when livestock graze post-harvest residue directly — manure deposited evenly, hooves break crust, urine adds nitrogen.
- The Worm Bank → Field Plot High-biology vermicompost top-dressed at planting time and around emerging seedlings. A handful per mound at Three Sisters planting inoculates the rhizosphere. The Worm Bank can't produce enough volume to fertilize Field Plot at scale alone, but its quality is irreplaceable for transplant / seedling boost.
- The Pump House → Field Plot Supplemental irrigation during establishment year and drought windows. A mature Field Plot rarely needs this; year-1 plots and drought-prone climates depend on it. Drip line or hand-water from the Pump House.
- The Grey Line → The Walipini Greywater fed via subsurface drip into Walipini perimeter beds. The Walipini's climate-controlled environment makes it the highest-value greywater destination in the Ark — water demand is steady year-round, and the contained space minimizes evaporation losses. Pair with the Walipini's existing Deep Reserve and Sky Well integrations for a fully diversified water supply.
- The Grey Line → Hedgerow Greywater feeds the Hedge perimeter — a perfect target because Hedge species are typically non-edible (or edible-fruit on woody plants), heavily transpiring, and routed along property contours that align naturally with greywater gravity flow. Excellent secondary treatment vegetation when willow / mulberry are part of the Hedge species mix.
- The Grey Line → The Guild Ring Greywater fed to the outer Guild Ring zones — the perennial nitrogen-fixers, dynamic accumulators, and ground-cover layers — never to the inner anchor-tree dripline or to direct-edible understory plants. The Guild Ring's diverse polyculture absorbs greywater's nutrient load broadly across many species, distributing the load that a single-species irrigation zone would concentrate.
- The Grey Line → The Coop Kitchen-sink greywater (where local code permits) feeds The Coop's Lane 2 Duckweed Trough integration. Greywater delivers dissolved nutrients to the duckweed, which doubles biomass every 2–6 days at 30–50% protein content — high-quality chicken feed that displaces 25–40% of commercial layer feed. Greywater purified by duckweed uptake; duckweed harvested for the flock; surplus water overflows to garden irrigation. The Coop's spec already documents this integration; this feed encodes the actual edge.
- The Sky Well → Field Plot Stored rainwater for Field Plot establishment-year irrigation and drought-window supplemental watering. A mature Field Plot rarely needs irrigation past year 2; year-1 plots and drought-prone climates depend heavily on it. Drip lines from Sky Well manifold to the Three Sisters block and grain blocks.
- The Sky Well → The Coop Clean rainwater for chicken drinkers. A 6-hen flock consumes ~1–2 gallons of drinking water per day — well within Sky Well capacity in any rainfall climate. Rainwater is preferred over chlorinated municipal water (chlorine disrupts gut microbiome) and over hard well water (mineral buildup in nipple drinkers).
- The Sky Well → The Paddock Clean rainwater for goat / sheep drinkers and paddock troughs. Ruminants consume 2–5 gallons per animal per day; a 4-goat herd uses ~10–20 gal/day. Rainwater is the canonical choice — no chlorine, no excess minerals, no microplastics from municipal supply.
- The Sky Well → The Smokehouse Clean rainwater (post-sediment + carbon filter) for corn nixtamalization, brine preparation, and produce washing. Avoids chlorine taint that municipal water leaves in masa and pickles. A 25 lb batch of nixtamalized corn uses ~5 gallons of cooking water — easily sourced from Sky Well storage.
- The Sky Well → The Preserve Clean rainwater (post-sediment + carbon + UV filter for canning-safe water) for water-bath canning, pressure canning, brine preparation, and lacto-ferment starters. The Preserve uses 5–15 gallons per canning session; Sky Well supplies sustainably without depending on municipal supply.
- Hedgerow → The Living Pantry Berries, fruits, edible flowers, and herbs harvested from the Hedgerow flow into the Living Pantry as fresh seasonal yield. Mature hedgerows produce 50–300+ lbs of human-edible food per 100 linear feet annually — significant supplemental yield for the household pantry without requiring any annual replanting.
- Hedgerow → The Coop The Coop's "Forage Edge" Stack & Loop integration depends on access to the Hedgerow. Chickens forage at the hedgerow base on fallen fruit, insects (parasitic wasps, predatory beetles), and leaf litter. This feed encodes the actual edge — the Hedgerow is the canonical Forage Edge target.
- Hedgerow → The Paddock Cut-and-carry forage from the Hedgerow into The Paddock. Mulberry leaves (15–25% protein), pollarded black locust branches (high-protein browse, regrows annually), comfrey cuts (cut 3–4× per season). A 100 ft hedgerow with a 20% forage-species mix supplies meaningful supplemental browse for a small ruminant herd through the growing season.
- Hedgerow → The Hive Continuous nectar and pollen succession from early-season willow and hawthorn blooms through summer raspberry / linden / elderberry blooms through late-season aster groundcover. The Hedgerow's flowering succession is one of the most reliable bee-forage timelines on the property — diverse species mean nectar flow lasts 4–6 months instead of a single 3–4 week bloom.
- Hedgerow → The Preserve Berries (raspberry, blackberry, currant, gooseberry, elderberry) for jam and syrup; rose hips for drying; hawthorn berries for tinctures; herbs for drying. Hedgerow output peaks in mid-to-late summer when Field Plot is still maturing — The Preserve absorbs this flush as the canonical preservation pipeline for hedgerow yield.
- Hedgerow → The Sanctum Annual late-winter pruning produces 50–200+ lbs of woody biomass per 100 ft. Coarse material (small branches, stems) goes to The Sanctum for hot composting; the resulting compost returns to the hedgerow base in fall, closing the loop. Finest material (leaves, herbaceous trim) can also go to the Worm Bank.
- The Sanctum → Hedgerow Finished compost from The Sanctum top-dressed at the hedgerow base annually in fall. Closes the loop on the Hedgerow → Sanctum biomass flow. The compost feeds soil biology, supports heavy producers, and replaces nutrients exported via harvest.
